Once your plan is approved, you need to understand different budgets, who can help you start using your plan, and how your plan is managed.
This is a brief explanation of how our exercise physiology approved NDIS services can be used in relation to your budget.
The NDIA commission are constantly making changes to how the NDIS works, and the below information is based on the current information as of July 2019.
There are three types of support budgets that may be funded in NDIS plans:
- Core Supports
- Capacity Building Supports
- Capital Supports
Your funding is based on what is ‘reasonable and necessary’ to achieve your goals in addition to the support provided by family friends and other community and government services.
Exercise Physiology services currently can be funded with Capacity Building Supports.
NDIS Funds for Exercise Physiology
Moonee Valley Health and Fitness’s Accredited Exercise Physiologists are trained to prescribe exercise programs to people who will benefit from greater mobility, balance and overall health. These are usually gym based programs delivered in our onsite gym in Travancore, VIC 3032.
Using your Capacity Support Budget.
Capacity Building Supports help build your independence and skills to help you reach your long-term goals. Unlike your Core Supports budget, your Capacity Building Supports budget cannot be moved from one support category to another. Funding can only be used to purchase approved individual supports that fall within that Capacity Building category. The Capacity Building categories that Exercise Physiology currently fall under are Improved Health & Wellbeing and Improved Daily Living.
Capacity Building and Exercise Physiology Services
The capacity building support services that exercise physiology services includes the following support categories.
- Improved Health and Wellbeing
- Physical Wellbeing Activities. These activities support, maintain or increase physical mobility or well-being through personal training or exercise physiology. Physical well-being activities promote and encourage improved physical capacity and health.
- Improved Daily Living Skills
- This support category includes assessment, training, strategy development and/or therapy (including Early Childhood Intervention) supports to assist the development or increase a participant’s skills and/or capacity for independence and community participation. Supports can be delivered to individuals or groups.
NDIS Support Items and Exercise Physiology Services
Each support category has many specific supports and services that are recognised with patient NDIS plans. These are referred to as ‘support items’ and are, in most cases, not prescribed in patients plans.
Within the 2019 NDIS Support Catalogue, Exercise Physiology is now included in the Improved Daily Living Skills Category in addition to the Improved Health and Wellbeing Category, creating more opportunity for choice and control for NDIS participants to get the help of an exercise physiologist that will help optimise their health outcomes and quality of life.
If as part of your NDIS plan an exercise physiologist could help you reach your goals, our team can currently offer the following services items as listed under the support catalogue.
